Academy of St. Martin in the Fields & Joshua Bell (UK)

The Academy is one of the world’s leading chamber orchestras famed for its superlative performances and impeccable musicianship. Perhaps it is fitting that they should make an exception for Grammy Award-winning violinist cum director Joshua Bell. Not only has Bell performed with all major orchestras and conductors, he has also been soloist on soundtracks for Oscar winning films, and recorded with artists such as Josh Groban, Sting, Pamela Frank and Steven Isserlis. His immense prowess on the violin and amply varied collaborations, coupled with his restless curiosity and multi-faceted musical interests have earned Bell the rare title of ‘classical music superstar’.

Get ready for a gripping performance at the Esplanade as Bell – who wields the precious Gibson ex-Huberman Stradivarius of 1713 – and the celebrated musicians of the Academy forge a unique artistic relationship that will enthrall, delight and surprise you.

There will be two separate performances on the 12th and 13th of June 2010.

12 June:
Beethoven Coriolan Overture, Op 62
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor, Op 64
Beethoven Symphony No 7 in A, Op 92

13 June:

Beethoven Violin Concerto in D, Op 61
